What is iD-Health
iD-Health is a European project aimed at enhancing the digital health literacy of people with intellectual disabilities, so that they can manage their health more independently.
At a time when healthcare is increasingly linked to digital services – online appointments, health apps, telemedicine – people with intellectual disabilities need accessible training to participate equally in the healthcare system. The project is developing learning tools tailored to their needs.

Programme Objectives
iD-Health aims to:
- To enhance digital health literacy
Develop skills for using health apps and digital services - Health autonomy
Supporting people with intellectual disabilities in managing their own health. - Training for professionals
Development of methodologies and tools for trainers and carers. - Accessible learning
Development of educational materials in a simple and understandable format.
Project Activities
The main actions include:
- Development of educational methodology
- Creation of educational materials
- Development of a digital educational tool
- Pilot scheme involving people with intellectual disabilities
- Project dissemination and sustainability activities.
In total, 90 people with intellectual disabilities and 30 support workers will take part in the evaluation activities, whilst more than 3,000 people are expected to benefit from the dissemination activities.
Expected Results
The project will create:
- An educational methodology for Digital Health Literacy
- Tailored educational materials
- A digital training tool
- A network of organisations for the dissemination of good practices.
Impact
iD-Health is expected to contribute to:
- to enhancing the autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities
- to improving access to health services
- to the development of social care professionals’ skills
- to the creation of accessible training tools at European level.
The project is part of the European priorities for inclusion, digital transition and adult education.
