TOGETHER

A whole family approach for young carers

Project Period: February 2020 – March 2022

Funding: CO-FUNDED BY THE ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Link: TOGETHER Project Website

Objective: To support children and young people who care for family members with difficulties, by promoting a ‘family-centred’ approach. Support for families who need to provide care for a family member and who have a younger child, so as to prevent any negative impact on them, as well as to improve their living conditions and achieve their social integration.

Results: Creation of a set of educational resources (including posters, leaflets and videos) to raise awareness:

  • for young carers regarding the importance of learning more about their parent’s or family member’s illness, discussing it within the family and finding a supportive adult to talk to.
  • parents and family members to help them understand how caring for someone with an illness, disability, mental health issue or addiction can affect the lives of these children and young people,
  • youth workers and other professionals to raise awareness and help them understand the impact of caring for young people and what they could do to better support these young people through a whole-family approach.
